Fanreports

Joel C. Marckx

Every year Neil Young has a benefit concert at Shoreline Amphitheater and has lots of special guests. Most bands play for about 30-40 minutes and Neil Young opens and closes each show. It is usually an all acoustic concert. This year on the schedule were David Bowie, Patti Smith, Cowboy Junkies, Pearl Jam, Hayden, and Neil Young with Crazy Horse. Pete Townshend was in town obviously for the Quadrophenia show at San Jose and Neil gave him a call to see if he wouldn't mind making a quick appearance. Pete seemed to really enjoy himself Saturday Night, singing mostly older stuff and giving a little background to each song: "MUDDY WATERS SAID 'MY GUITAR IS MY THING!!'...if my guitar was my thing, then I used to bounce my thing all over the stage!"
