My first Who gig! Dutch band Golden Earring opened for the Who. After a deafening bass solo the audience was left with their ears ringing. What followed can't be rationally explained. It was a cross between being abducted by a UFO and a born again experience. I can still see the white bearded Gibson powered giant landing on various spots of the stage while the guy in the denim jacket was whipping his mike over the madman's cymbals. On the far left of the stage John stood hardly blinking, his fingers blurred with speed as his speakers blasted off the loudest and treblest sound I had ever heard.
