Cool show ... felt a bit by-the-numbers at times ... though still rockin. After David Duchovny's introduction, Foo Fighters started the show with a blazing version of "Young Man Blues" followed by a not so great version of "Bargain". Next were The Flaming Lips (introduced by an Elton John pinball wizard-wearing Rain Wilson) ... giant ball and all ... who did a medley of TOMMY tunes. This was followed by Incubus, who did decent, but not great versions of "I Can See For Miles" and "I Can't Explain". Tenacious D did a fun version of "Squeeze Box". Next up was Pearl Jam (introduction from Sean Penn), who did great versions of "Love Rein O'er Me" and "The Real Me" with strings and horns and the kitchen sink. Then came at Adam Sandler, who did a fun version of "Magic Bus" but with Sandler lyrics paying tribute to each member of The Who ... followed by THE WHO ... or at least the two surviving members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend, with their back-up band. Not really The Who, in the my purist definition ... yet ... there they were ... a bit rough, yet still rocking. Opening with "Baba O'Reilly", going soon into "The Seeker", "Behind Blue Eyes", and "Who Are You." "You Better You Bet" was marred by sound issues for Townshend, which stopped the song mid-way. Eventually they started the song again from scratch and completed the song with Pete Townshend going right into "My Generation" on his own, with the band joining in a beat later. Next up (I think) was "2000 Years" followed by a roaring "Won't Get Fooled Again". Closing on a much quieter note with "Tea and Theatre". This wasn't The Who I remember from my very first concert in 1982 nor is it the same Who I saw front row in Irvine in 2000. Yet, for Roger and Pete (ages 64 and 63, respectively) they still put on a damn fine show.
