Fanreports

Chris Walker

I was wondering what the show would be like - would this be a nostalgia show or a typical Who concert. The Twin Cities is not, I'm sure, the high point of the tour for any group, and you know that the band is getting on in years. I am pleased to report that if they were less enthused because of where they were playing or because they are even older than the 40+ year olds in the audience, they didn't show it.

Roger admitted being hoarse. He blamed it on playing the House of Blues the previous night, saying that it holds 1200 people, all of whom smoke. He promised to give his best, which he did - his hoarseness showed from time to time, but he still handled the scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. His mike swinging went on through the whole show, with only one drop.

Pete just kicked butt all night, it was great just to watch him play with such intensity for two plus hours. He also played to the crowd - At one point he told us that he was not happy with his sound and the sound crew told him they would check it - and was outraged that we are a sellout crowd and they are just going to CHECK on it. He also laughed while telling us that Quadrophenia (for those of us that didn't study it in school because we only studied Tommy) was about a 15/16 year old fuckup - who all of us seem to relate to. The signature roundhouse was also in play.

I admit not watching the rest of the group as much, although I was drawn to Zak during Won't Get Fooled Again. What a wild performance that was. At the end Roger and Pete came to the front of the stage and acknowledged the crowd for several minutes while the rest vanished into the back. I assume that was the same as other cities, and really shows that they know why people were there.

Despite the reasons not to, they kept the energy level high throughout, which made it a very memorable show.
