The Who played at the Kinetic Theater in Chicago on Memorial Day, Friday, May 30, 1969. Admission: 5 bucks. Joe Cocker and the Grease Band opened the show and the relatively unknown Cocker made a big impression with his voice and facial contortions. Set list was pretty much from Cocker's first album "A Little Help From My Friends ('Feeling Alright", "Blackbird", "She Came in Thru the Bathroom Window" ...). Buddy Rich and his orchestra followed and wowed the crowd with the full spectrum sound that can be only generated from a 20 odd piece orchestral group. The Who took the stage and asked the audience whether they preferred 2 sets or 1 long set and the latter was the preference. My recollection is that the band then proceeded to pretty much play Tommy from beginning to end which I had never heard. They concluded the show with the requisite Magic Bus/My Generation medley. All in all, probably the most memorable concert I've attended in my life!
